First Blog
We wanted to share our first official update from the farm and offer a glimpse into what we’ve been working on over the past month. This space is meant to be simple and honest—just a way to keep you connected to what’s happening on the land as we build, learn, and grow.
What we’ve been working on
This month was very much about foundations.
We completed the installation of a deer fence, a big step in protecting future plantings and making the farm more resilient as we expand. It’s one of those projects that isn’t glamorous, but it makes everything else possible.
We also spent time helping Mike Tryll get started with his planting fundamentals program. He’s creating opportunities for adults over 21 with mental disabilities to work on the farm, learn skills, and be part of something meaningful. Being able to support this effort has been one of the most rewarding parts of the month.
Another major milestone: with the help and cooperation of Southampton Township, we’ve officially been approved for a new barn. We’re grateful for the support and guidance from the township as we continue building the infrastructure the farm needs for the long term.
Working alongside Pepperbush Bees, we’ve also been busy at the farmers market, selling the last of our all-local honey and beeswax candles for the season. It’s been great connecting with the community and seeing these products find their way into local homes.
In the fields
Our cover crops are doing exactly what they’re supposed to—and then some. We’ve pulled up the largest daikon radishes we’ve ever seen, breaking up soil and setting us up for healthier beds next season. It’s a good reminder that a lot of the most important work happens below the surface.
Challenges & problem-solving
Not everything this month went as planned. We had a generator stolen from the property, which was frustrating and disappointing. With help from the New Jersey State Police, who have been actively involved and surveying the land, we’ve taken steps to improve security. We’ve installed Wi-Fi cameras with signage, motion detection, and alerts to better protect the farm moving forward.
Looking ahead
We’ve launched an Instagram account to share more day-to-day moments from the farm, and we’re deep in conversations about what to plant in the new year—balancing soil health, productivity, and long-term goals.
There’s a lot taking shape right now. Some of it is visible, some of it is still in planning mode, but all of it is moving us in the right direction.
Thanks for being here and following along. More soon.
